Apple Log LUTs for iPhone

Each Found Grade Apple Log file does two jobs in one step: it converts Apple Log footage to Rec. 709, then applies one look.[1] Use it in place of a conversion LUT, not on top of one.

USD 29, one time. 26 looks, .cube, 33-point grid.

What is in the pack

The pack has 26 looks, each as a 33-point .cube file.[2]

Every pair of looks is at least 6 apart in mean CIE76 delta E on the same 18 test frames, and each look is at least 4 from the plain conversion. Both floors are our own choices, and the test frames are our own iPhone clips plus four public-domain photos.[2]

See the looks on real footage

Trees against a blue sky shown four ways: the plain conversion, then the Dry Sun, Teal Amber and Clean Punch looks.
In reading order: the plain conversion, then Dry Sun, Teal Amber and Clean Punch, on licensed Sony S-Log3 footage. The looks are the same on every input once the footage is converted, so this frame stands in for Apple Log footage until we have licensed Apple Log clips to show.[1][12]

Which iPhones record Apple Log

Apple lists iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models as recording ProRes in either HDR or Log encoding.[3] Final Cut Pro offers Apple Log and Apple Log 2 as separate camera LUTs.[4][5]

These files are built for Apple Log. We have not pinned a published color space for Apple Log 2, so we do not say they support it.[6]

Questions

Do I still need a conversion LUT for Apple Log?

No. Each Found Grade file already converts Apple Log to Rec. 709 before the look, so a second conversion would convert twice. In Final Cut Pro, load the file as a custom camera LUT so it takes the place of the built-in Apple Log camera LUT.[1][7]

Which editors can load the files?

The format is .cube. Final Cut Pro imports .cube files,[8] and CapCut on desktop imports .cube files.[9] DaVinci Resolve loads them from its LUT folder.[10]

Does it work with Apple Log 2?

We do not know yet. Final Cut Pro treats Apple Log 2 as its own camera LUT,[5] and we have not pinned its color space, so we make no claim.[6]

Can I use these on iPhone HDR or HLG video?

No. These files expect Apple Log. HDR clips from the Camera app need the HLG files.

Do the looks keep skin tones natural?

Not all of them. On our two light-skinned test photos, 13 of the 26 looks move skin hue by more than 12 degrees, and each flagged look is marked on its sample sheet. Darker skin tones are untested.[11]
